HE'S WITH ME (LYRIC VIDEO)
With over 1,000 vintage guitars to choose from, Mary Elizabeth’s heart was absolutely set on a beautiful '57 Gibson Country Western! “From the moment I played it, I couldn't stop thinking about that sound...that tone!!!” A few days later, she told her husband that it was haunting her! The following week they went back, she just had to play it again. Mary Elizabeth told Walter, the owner of Carter Vintage guitar, that she HAD to have this guitar, that it had been haunting her. He told her that guitar also came with “an ugly” green dress. The dress was stuffed in a large, ziploc bag, Walter said that she was welcome to try it on, so off to the bathroom she went!
It was perfect!! She knew when she zipped up that beautiful, green, polyester dress - she had really zipped up the fate of that guitar! Being a wardrobe stylist and a classic, country music lover, Mary Elizabeth had no doubt this was a sign that this guitar belonged with her!!
Walter Carter informed her that the guitar had belonged to Nashville singer / songwriter, Lorene Mann, who wrote the hit song for Rex Allen, 'Son Don't Go Near The Indians'. THEN his wife Christie brought in a picture of Lorene Mann, wearing the same dress holding the same guitar, along with her album from the 60's! After a quick photoshoot in the shop, the deal was done!! She played that guitar all night long! The next morning She researched Lorene Mann. To Mary Elizabeth’s surprise, she and Lorene have same birthday, January 4th...and she’s buried across the street from her house at SpringHill Cemetery! Not only was Lorene Mann a singer / songwriter but she is a co-founder of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). In the 70's, she came up with the slogan “It All Begins With a Song.” This remains the motto of the NSAI to this day. Just days after getting the guitar, Mary Elizabeth wrote her first song and hasn’t stopped! This story inspired her song ‘It All Begins With A Song’ that Mary Elizabeth wrote with Isabella Brown. Mary Elizabeth is a Nashville based singer songwriter and a life long lover of traditional, country music. The classic country sounds of the 50's, 60's, and 70's has influenced her writing and sound.
Mary Elizabeth Long knows a little about the entertainment industry. She was an award winning makeup artist, wardrobe stylist and jewelry designer. When her father was diagnosed with dementia in 2014, Mary Elizabeth's life changed when she became his full time caregiver. That's when the music started. Her father had played harmonica his whole life. Although his short term memory was failing, he could still remember how to play hundreds of classic country songs. Mary Elizabeth realized the true power of music! She learned to play guitar so the two of them could share the gift of song. She purchased a vintage guitar and the very next day she wrote her first country song. The last song on her record is a love letter to her father 'Waltz For Daddy'.
